Superintendent's Newsletter

December

The meaning of December stems from the Latin word decem, meaning ten. The old Roman calendar started in March, making December the tenth month.  When the Roman senate changed the calendar in 153 BCED, the new year started in January and December became the 12th month.

The December solstice on December 21 or 22 is also known as the winter solstice. It is the shortest day of the year int he Northern Hemisphere and marks the beginning of the (astronomical) winter season there.  In the Southern Hemisphere it is called the summer solstice.  There, it is the longest day of the year and the beginning of the (astronomical) summer season.

Thursday 12/21/23 will be a half day for students.
Schools will be closed on Friday 12/22/23 and reopen on 1/9/24.
Wishing each and every MUSD family a safe and relaxing break and Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!

The Truth About Fentanyl
A presentation for Elementary, Middle, and High School Parents

Please join us for a presentation on "The Truth About Fentanyl", on Wednesday, January 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the AHS Performing Arts Building.  The presentation will focus on fentanyl, what it is, how deadly it is, and what you need to know to help and protect your children. The event features Ryan Rezaei, an Assistant United States Attorney and former narcotics chief with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco, and Mariella Sanding, a coordinator with the Contra Costa County MEDS Coalition.  The presentation features graphic content, and is geared towards parents with children in elementary, middle, and high school.  NARCAN will be made available for distribution, and training will be given on its effective use.  Please do not miss this important event.   Due to the graphic content, it may not be appropriate for younger children.

Please use this link to register (para espanol registrate aqui) so that Mariella can ensure enough NARCAN for each participant who is trained.
