Alhambra High School is a comprehensive public high school in the Martinez Unified School District. Nestled in the rolling hills of Martinez, Alhambra keeps a strong tie to deeply rooted community traditions. Our high school maintains its original Spanish style, yet is on the cutting edge of the 21st century education.
Approximately 1350 students are enrolled at Alhambra for the 2008-2009 school year. Alhambra was a California Digital High School and has incorporated technology into all curricular areas. We received a three-year accreditation with a three-year review from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the spring of 2005. AP and Honors classes are offered in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Foreign Language and Fine Arts. Students may concurrently enroll in classes at Diablo Valley College. Our Center for the Arts building opened in the spring of 2003 where an active drama department produces plays twice yearly. The Creative Writing class produces Backroads, our yearly fine art magazine. AHS leadership and student government classes involve many of our students in the school community. We field 35 teams in the following sports: football, cross country, water polo, girls volley ball, girls golf, girls tennis, basketball, wrestling, soccer, cheerleading, track & field, swimming & diving, boys volleyball, baseball, softball, boys golf, boys tennis and lacrosse. Alhambra has an extensive Regional Occupation Program (ROP) which includes courses in cabinet making, construction technology, automotive, multi-media design, creative writing/graphic design, marketing & sports medicine.
